The article explores the experiences of members of Polish ensembles in Lithuania who participated in the 2024 Lithuanian Song Celebration, aiming to understand how involvement in this national cultural event influences their national identity and their relationship with Lithuania. The study applies the Communication Theory of Identity, which includes four levels – personal, relational, enacted, and communal – with the objective to determine how identity is formed and expressed through communicative practices such as singing, dancing, interpersonal relationships, and community belonging.
The research is based on eight semi-structured interviews with ensemble members and their leaders. The findings show that, in the respondents’ narratives, Polishness and Lithuanianness often emerged not as competing but as complementary dimensions of identity. The results suggest that the experience of participating in the Song Celebration can be meaningful for members of national minorities in expressing their identity and reflecting on their relationship with Lithuania.
