A typical feature of the Tafsir manuscripts of the Polish and Lithuanian Muslims is the numerous glosses, explanatory notes and commentaries, either written on the margins of the basic text or directly interwoven with the Slavic (Polish and / or Belarusian) translation of the Quran. The article provides an initial classification of these notes, with particular emphasis on their quality and quantity. Moreover, the article proposes a thesis about possible substantive and formal connections between the notes and the Islamic commentaries in Turkish. An emphasis was also put on the chronology of the notes in regard to the main translated text: their archaic form at the linguistic and the graphic level lead to a conclusion that many of them were written at the same time as the first Slavic translation of the Quran was done (i.e. in the second half of the 16th century) and then copied by the authors of later copies.
