Abstract

This article examines a specific type of egodocument which focuses on food, cooking, and the experience of taste. It examines manuscript recipes that record personal experiences and often appear on the pages of other egodocuments, such as French livres de raison and Polish silvae rerum. It also refers to ‘culinary diaries’, which have already attracted scholarly interest in several countries as sources for the history of literature, writing and communication.

The article analyses two manuscripts by Paschalis Radoliński, a nobleman from Greater Poland: a collection of recipes and a culinary diary. In the diary, food plays a central role in everyday life, serving as a medium for expressing emotions, exploring relationships, and conveying the author’s perspective on the world. The article interprets the text by using concepts and methods from cultural food history and the history of culinary writing.
