Abstract

This article aims to reveal the psychological aspects of court decision-making, with particular attention paid to the reasons for biased court decisions. This goal is achieved by examining individual court decisions and illustrating the various factors that influence these decisions. First, the relationship between law and psychology is discussed, revealing the various factors that influence court decisions. Next, several heuristics and bias effects that manifest themselves in the decision-making process of judges are analyzed. The negative consequences of these heuristics or bias effects are highlighted. Finally, the article discusses measures to reduce bias in decisions and their current use in Lithuania.
